KOKOMO LABS
Kokomo Labs was founded as a small hobby kennel back in 1985. The name was chosen because of my love for my first Labrador Retriever. The name Koko was a first suggestion because she was chocolate. Although even more appropriate she formally became “Hershey’s Sweetest Kiss Ever”. So KOKOMO then became my kennel name. At that time I thought I would only have chocolate Labradors. I never dreamed that 32 years later I would own, breed, and train black, yellow, and chocolate Labradors!
We live on 10 acres in Howell, MI with our Labs, horses, kitties, and a resident Doberman for fun! We've more recently added 2 French Bulldogs. I think even I have reached my limit! Many of the dogs we own today are direct descendants of our beloved Hershey. That is six and seventh generation of our breeding at this point.
There is nothing that has ever been bred in our kennel that has not been OFA certified, and checked regularly for the health problems that plague our breed, and may be bred into our lines. We guarantee that we are sending home a healthy, happy puppy, free from disease or genetics that will shorten their life. Our oldest girl here at this time, is our sweet Honey. She turned 15 on Dec. 5, 2016. She still goes out every day and hangs with the rest of the pack, even on snowy days! Our last girl we lost was our most beautiful, kind, smart Shelby. She lived to 15 1/2 years old! We are so blessed to be able to boast of such long, loved lives!
We have puppies all over Michigan, and many out of state as well. We actually have an Ottawa, Canada boy that lives the good life too! Our pups are chosen for hunting, shown for conformation, field, agility, and with great pride, we have five of our pups that have finished their training at the Ohio Ability Center for Assistance Dogs of America. All of them are with their owners, helping them through their daily tasks. Best of all, many of our dogs become a part of the family that chose them as a puppy to live a long, full, loved life. Many of our puppy owners are on their 2nd and 3rd pups from us. There seems to be quite a following for our Kokomo Labs. We couldn't be more proud.
Our babies are born in our home, and pampered beyond request. They are socialized with family, pets, and many of the strange inside and outside noises, and experiences that only a family with four boys can provide! Every puppy that leaves our home has a health check with first shots and wormings. We also include a folder with all pedigree information, pictures, certifications, and future preventive medical needs. We make sure the transition to their new home is smooth and as painless as possible!
All in all, this is a love of the breed. There is no breed better suited for families, hunters, seniors, or anything in between. The sky is the limit for trainability, loyalty, and stamina for the beloved Labrador Retriever!
